“I like the cover,” he said. “Don’t Panic. It’s the first helpful or intelligible thing anybody’s said to me all day.”– Arthur Dent, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Hello there. My name is JP Williams. I’m a cybersecurity professional based in Austin, Texas.
My professional journey didn’t begin in security – it started in the project management office at Grand Canyon National Park. As a Project Coordinator and later Project Manager, I specialized in the preservation of National Historic Landmark structures. I set up a Historic Preservation Maintenance trade group within the Building Maintenance department, co-authored Standard Operating Procedures for restoring historic architecture, and created a standardized submission template for federal project review.
While rewarding, that path left me wanting more hands-on problem solving. After several years of watching paint (literally) dry, I pivoted into IT and discovered my true calling in cybersecurity.
Since then, I’ve built deep expertise in network security, intrusion analysis, digital forensics, and detection engineering. I’ve led the development and implementation of cybersecurity policies, guided cross-functional teams through complex deployments, and helped safeguard critical infrastructure systems in both IT and OT environments.
Beyond my day job, I’m also a co-organizer of DCG-SATX (DEF CON Group San Antonio), a local cybersecurity community where we bring together practitioners, researchers, and enthusiasts to share knowledge, collaborate, and learn.
