About Me

“I like the cover,” he said. “Don’t Panic.  It’s the first helpful or intelligible thing anybody’s said to me all day.”
Arthur Dent, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Hey there.  I go by JP.

Currently, I am employed by the City of Austin as a Senior IT Network Administrator.  It probably goes without saying but I will say it anyway all content on this independent website represents my personal opinions and are not those of my employer.

Prior to this, I started my professional career off working in the project management office at Grand Canyon National Park.  I was a Project Coordinator and later Project Manager who specialized in historic preservation of listed National Historic Landmark structures for several years.  Part of this included setting up a Historic Preservation Maintenance trade group within the Engineering department, co-authoring several Standard Operating Procedures on the restoration and repair of historic architectural elements, and creating a standard submissions template for federal project review.

After several years of denying how miserable I was in my chosen career, I made a lateral move into IT and never looked back.  I’ve come to realize that I enjoy the challenge of working with difficult issues hands-on instead of watching proverbial paint dry on conference calls all day.

In my off time, I enjoy reading technical publications, binge watching conference videos, and generally confusing my wife with whatever strange new device and/or technical manual I bring home.
